Yea they never tasted good. I had my first and only twinkie 20 years ago when I was in my mid 20s and it was terrible, my pre-teen kid bought a pack the other day and I tried one, it tastes just like I remember but my kid thinks it's peak.
As Teen/YA I was obsessed with the Dune series. I was over the moon when I heard his son and KJA were releasing more but I got about 4 novels into the prequels before I just couldn't anymore. I wanted so bad for there to be more but each novel just made me more angry at how terrible, shallow and on the nose they were.

The problem is that unless you have 10s if not 100s of millions to self bootstrap it eventually you have to pay salaries/bills and you will need investors while you get to the point users want to pay for it then you will already be past the point of no return on the road of enshittification. Or you go completely decentralized and it's so complicated to securely setup servers or join them that few are willing to use it and you won't be able to convince your nontechnical friends to join
Unfortunately TS doesn't match my groups use case. Having to join voice channels to chat and there is no history is a show stopper. I'm looking at hosting a matrix server but the more I read about it the less appealing it seems. The barriers to join by the alternatives are a huge detriment to getting many people to agree to move.
