I see it more as cause and effect:
Cause: is idiot; Effect: *whack* *BONK*.
Similarly,
Cause: is idiot; Effect: spent stupid amount of money on idiot truck.
Either way, idiot arrives at same outcome and we all laugh.

You're absolutely right, but to be fair there were a LOT of moving/mechanical parts in pre-digital audio equipment. :)
