I.. I think what your looking for is, a different site.
It should be 60/40 organic/inorganic.
inorganic build up then other areas. Adding sand now burdens this process overtime so be sure to add a light coat of organic each spring

Looks like a steep slope. I imagine this revives water and does not dry out quickly. Try a small amount of sand. Maybe a 1/4 lb for an area

1st sand isn't ideal. In fact substrate isn't ideal. I crazy glue mine to hardscape that is close to the light. Be sure to keep the algae
