I'm not sure capitalist leaders would listen if it weren't in the shape of "exploiting resources beyond sustainability will hit your bottom line". Costs to ecosystems, people in more affected countries, and whatever the future consequences of our current consumption aren't reflected in the price of things. You could lure me into a VERY easily accessible cave with a promise of crystals or cave paintings, but just a hole in the ground? Nah. Water is right out!
The people who first go exploring and just try whether they'd fit through if they breathed out a bit further, ya, doesn't look like a sane hobby, topped only by doing all this under water. Squeezing through well-explored caves, still definitely NOT something I'd want to do, but at least no such surprises
A way to clean beneath chicken quickly. They shit in their sleep, a lot. Catch and remove that and the coop doesn't need cleaning so often.

The shape of the cave system has changed drastically over time, it was more accessible a few 100.000 years ago. H. naledi was also a good deal smaller.

If it's anything like in the villages here, the whole fire brigade is volunteers, and ya, sometimes they take the gear out for fun, sorry, exercises and inspections of course. One saturday a car across the road was dripping oil. Big rig turned up, people shoved a pan under the car and started a picknick. Van came with 10 more firefighters, a crate of beer and a bbq. One way to spend a day taking care of an acute environmental hazard xD

Here most pill packs only contain 21 pills anyways. I'd assume people didn't want to pay a premium for a "season" version when they could just use their regular pill without a break.
