So the progressives who refuse to bite the bullit and vote pragmatically can still participate and have some influence. It's not an ideal situation, since overall we have moved to the right. But the end result is that instead of having a Danish Trump take over (that guy does exist), we have the center left and center right parties making pragmatic compromises
Everything isn't rosy here either. We also have growing support for the right, especially the racist right wing parties, whenever there is an economic downturn, which has been almost constantly hapening for the last 20ish years. However, our biggest center left party is very pragmatic, so in response to this trend, they have also changed their stance to be pretty harsh anti immigration. This does suck balls, but they have stopped the bleed to the right.. so yeah.. they get my vote.
No problem. This is part of why I spent time on Imgur, I like to educate Americans on how the rest of the world does things.on that note. Part of our union fees are used to lobby politicians and fund the left wing politicians, to counter act the lobbying and funding done by the companies.
I think the best way to paint this picture so you can relate is to imagine that all companies in USA had to negotiate directly with Bernie Sanders, AOC and Elisabeth Warren every few years. And If they can't agree then Bernie would call for a strike and ~80% of American workers would refuse to lift a finger untill an agreement has been reached.
This is nothing new, and has also been tried here (Denmark), but while most people might fall for it, the unions have experts who track stuff like this over time and the members listen to what they say.Also, there is a joint negotiation every few years including all unions and all industries where they agree on the framework for the gradual changes in working conditions and general salary level for period untill the next negotiation. This makes it very difficult for companies to "cheat" slowly
