...common rabble that can hardly be considered "human" and that it is a moral imperative to embody a certain image - presenting oneself of not just rising above, to not just be better, but to embody the "best". Be best may as well say "be the Übermensch". Typical fascist BS. And for anyone thinking I'm reaching, again, "be best" can not address everyone, it must be meant for a supposed elite. The alternative is like saying "every student must be brought up to the top 25 percentile".

I think nobody complains about the real issue with that BS. It's not "be *your* best self". It's not "strive towards...". It's not "be better". By definition it can not apply to everyone bc not everyone can be *the* best. I don't think it is a conscious sinister choice, but I think it betrays a fucked up way of thinking. The only way to make sense of it IMO is if it is meant to address the only audience that matters to her: The "elite" she identifies with, that should stand above the...

It *was* life and death for countless Palestinians. We let them die. Which isn't to say that we shouldn't act now to save what can still be saved, we *must*. But there is no making up for our abject failure. Those deaths are on all of us for not acting more quickly and decisively. History will judge us harshly for it. As a German, that makes it an especially bitter pill to swallow for me. We're second on the list of peoples who should know better, right behind Israel. Utterly inexcusable.

Mamdani didn't do it in a red city, much less state. Still, there is a modicum of hope here.

The fuck?! Wanna label me a cannibal, pedophile and non-shopping-cart-returner, too, for absolutely zero reason while you are at it?

...to denigrate themselves in front of their torturer that violated them who of course is completely 100% untouchable and refusing to play along gives you an instant game over in a game with an ironman mode. Most disgusting thing I've seen in an RPG. Truly repulsive.

#12 Picking her up was the moment I stopped my non-dogmatic playthrough and started over as dogmatic to immediately kill her at the first opportunity. I'm dark skinned and I'll be damned if I'm going to play with a companion who keeps calling me "monkey". If at least they had had the decency to pronounce the word as written, i.e. "mon-kay", but no. But the act that came after had me even more angry. Sure, let's rob the player of all agency and shit all over their PC & companions, then force em..

Can confirm, that is exactly how I got hit by a car at 6 yrs old. Didn't cross the street w/ the other children who just ran across despite a parked semi blocking the view. Child logic catch-22: Can't cross w/o looking, can't look w/o stepping onto the street past the semi. Resolution: Other kids were looking for me and calling me over saying it's clear. I hestitated too long, followed, boom. Moral: Don't trust kids, as a driver or when it comes to your safety. Fun bonus fact: I'm also German.

The problem is people not holding their elected representatives to account. If the vast majority of Americans called for impeachment and barraged their representatives with demands, it would happen. But too many Americans simply suck.

The only reason I object to the exact wording of that statement is because of how he is infamous for having
touched so many children.

I mean, technically, if it was made from an impossibly dense material, then, once carefully placed, it'd be very resitant to random impulses changing its velocity in significant ways. Even heavier and it and the craft would attract each other significantly. A lot of effort compared to velcro, though.

Professor Flitwick, Fleur Delacour, Ollivander - there's a few of the supporting cast coming to mind as better choices. The best choice, of course, would be not to touch the IP with a 10ft. pole given Rowling's hateful ideology.

I am black, but not American, so take my opinion with a huge grain of salt, but my opinion on blackface in media is the same as with Nazis - ok when used to vilify the character in question. RDJ's character was clearly portrayed as unhinged and morally wrong for doing it and repeatedly called out, making it fine in my book. Same with Chang in "Community". I understand the value of making it a cultural taboo, however - mf's would be pushing boundaries immediately, given the chance.

I don't know. Off of cliffs, roofs, etc.? Sure. But I think many cats would draw the line at being so cruel to shove another living thing into water. (Maybe also so they don't have to get wet to feast on the remains)

Words gain or lose meaning depending on context - their utility lies in transferring ideas, not to be perfectly well defined w/o fuzzy edges. They only need to be *precise enough*, given the current context. See also: Trees, chairs, a "pile", living organism (vis a vis prions, viruses, cancers, etc.), consciousness or oh so many nouns.

Why is the grav platform rolling? Also, WH40k is a dystopian satirical vision of the future, which implies that it being launched was a mistake for ultimately bringing about their way of life. It's like an Iranian unironically looking at a picture of the Mayflower saying "thank you, none of this would have been possible without you".
