Which end? Season 8 or season 10? I felt season 8 was a perfect ending. Season 10, not so much.
effigyoma
Season 8 was supposed to be the ending. Then they got a surprise renewal...followed by a surprise cancelation
They kept making endings because they didn't know the show wasn't being canceled. So the writes kept writing endings then boom got contracts
For a new season.
True but basically all conflicts were resolved by season 8 and the team was relaxing together and fishing. Pleasant end. Then they made 1/
season 9. Needed new conflicts and a new big bad (since the Goa'uld were defeated). Main star didn't return so they needed a new lead. 2/
2 seasons of Ori couldn't beat the 8 that Goa'uld got even if the Ori felt like more of a threat. Season 9-10 felt like a spin-off. 3/
Season 10 was screwed because they weren’t meant to be cancelled. SyFy screwed them over and refused to let them move networks post s10
Originally they were gonna be Apples flagship in house series, but Syfy said no, and they were forced to go to movies
Buuuut Amazon just bought MGM and stargate and the rumours are we’ll see in canon shows start back up soon.
Didn't Syfy just push past season 8 to get to season 10 JUST for some kind of record? And once the record was achieved, they ditched SG1?
Pretty much, I watched a recent interview with one of the producers; S11 was planned and plotted, and Syfy pulled the rug & used contracts
To kill any attempt to move it elsewhere and continue
Then did they replace SG1's slot with more wrestling....?

I always felt this saved Big Bang Theory. They got past the MOST EGREGIOUS “nerd farce” and let the characters marry/grow.
I feel like it helped up to a point, then over time it just became a generic "work friends & family" sitcom.
With the only science references being meaningless technobabble & nerdy celeb cameos towards the end
Point. “Saved” in my original comment should be read as “ears don’t bleed anymore when wife watches it.” It didn’t make it GOOD per-se.
... or everyone's just flanderized beyond recognition and now solely consists of only one or two personality traits played up to eleven. 1/
Like how Joey in Friends went from not-too-bright but having some moments to borderline shouldn't-be-allowed-outside-alone levels of dumb.
PackedCatMeowingPowerDensity
Not really a Friends-watcher but Joey had actual personality once? When? How? I only know Phoebe went from tragic backstory to "cookyspice".

7 was stronger than 6. But the ending to 5 was the natural stopping point. Could have gone out with a bang. Any rewatch by me stops at 5.

The good girl turns bad scenario definitely shaped my life from that point onwards. Was like oh, fuck, I don't have to be the smart sensible

Season 7 was more consistently good, but season 6 had the better episodes. Once More With Feeling, Seeing Red, Villains, Two to Go, Grave.
Seasons 5 & 6 were probably my favourites. So many memorable moments.
Season 5 was absolutely brilliant. Some of the best episodes were in 4 and 6. But the best overall villain was Angelus, in season 2.
Smaugdk
Sad but true. Just watched the whole thing.. auch.
PeteTusk
Did you watch the spinoff series Angel too?
SkeletorOverlordofEvil
Not to Deep Space Nine. While a little shaky at first, it did better and better each season.
Oh good. I'm like, 7 episodes in so more to look forward to!
Yeah. Most shows start shaky as everyone gets into the groove. DS9 got better -and- went out with a bang.
adiving
S7 is still very much watchable, but I wouldn't ever call it better than 6.
AmHumanNotLizardMan
Dukat being turned from grey villain to moustache twirling crazy man was just terrible, but the dominion war in general was amazing.
HelloToe
And TNG of course. The phrase 'grew the beard' was created for a reason.
onlyhalfghost
TNG grows the beard in Season 2, following exactly the pattern described in the meme.
obarey
Also the Sisko Switch and Sheridan's beard in B5.
Interesting, thank you.
He originally shaved the beard & grew his hair out for the role bc they didn't want him to look like his role Hawk from Spenser for Hire.
Clearly a mistake; the show gets *markedly* better once he grows the beard back.
UnagiFerrin
I love that some shows like Gravity Falls are planned out from the start for all seasons and it ends well
Some high-level story beats may be planned out in advance, but anyone who says they planned out all the details of a show is lying.
Yeah, usually for the best. Same with Breaking Bad, and the fact that they had it planned (and said no to extra seasons) from the start.
Textuality
Babylon-5 was the same way. Though the network kind of screwed with it by first not giving them their fifth season forcing them to try and
wrap stuff up, then giving it to them making them have to adjust a bunch of stuff.
RARusk
I think B5 was the first to try this approach. Hopefully, with the reboot, JMS can do S5 the way he originally wanted to.
drunkcat
Just like Infinity Train! Oh wait.
SayWhatYouMeanMeanWhatYouSay
Me too, though the tricky thing about that kind of situation is if the shows a big hit the network may want it to run longer, and if the >>
creative team won’t play ball the network may just replace them, leading to a similar “ghost of its former self” scenario.
UprootedGrunt
Ah, the Babylon 5 experience. "Ratings suck, you get one less season." Wraps things up. "Ratings are up, we want season 5 now..."
PunnyDragon
Was that what happened to Gargoyles?
Avatar and Korra prime examples. And Korra a prime example of when the network FUCKS with the plan mid production...
But I thought she said she was "bicurious" in like one of the First episodes
Dude literally the only thing LGBT the network allowed in Korra was handholding in the last shot of the whole series.
And the rule34 artists fucking Ran with that one! :D
Lampmonster

few seasons kinda sucked. A few good episodes, a lot of going through the motions filler. It’s 11 seasons. Be honest with yourself.
Brunoemf90
Precisely what I was gonna say. Anyone who can survive the borefest that is S1 is in for a treat with their amazing subsequent seasons.
ScroogeMcMeow
I think season 1 is great AFTER completing the entire show. Look back at characters that are now fleshed out to you.
TheBigBadBonerBiter
S1 is only six episodes, y'all make it sound like it has 2-3 times that.
hannibal1barca
Because it felt like 2-3 times that! Haha I did end up loving the show but had to try to start it 3 times
Either way, S1 is definitely not one that makes you say “you know what, I wanna watch more of that”. When recommending Parks n Rec to 1/2
New viewers, I’m always compelled to say that they should not give up after S1 because I know that many will be inclined to. 2/2
That's pretty much what I'm saying, it's short enough to power through and the rest of the show is good enough to make up for it.
OnePieceRoboFranky

Alpha5772
They kept making endings because they didn't know the show wasn't being canceled. So the writes kept writing endings then boom got contracts
Alpha5772
For a new season.
HypnoJack
True but basically all conflicts were resolved by season 8 and the team was relaxing together and fishing. Pleasant end. Then they made 1/
HypnoJack
season 9. Needed new conflicts and a new big bad (since the Goa'uld were defeated). Main star didn't return so they needed a new lead. 2/
HypnoJack
2 seasons of Ori couldn't beat the 8 that Goa'uld got even if the Ori felt like more of a threat. Season 9-10 felt like a spin-off. 3/
underestimated37
Season 10 was screwed because they weren’t meant to be cancelled. SyFy screwed them over and refused to let them move networks post s10
underestimated37
Originally they were gonna be Apples flagship in house series, but Syfy said no, and they were forced to go to movies
underestimated37
Buuuut Amazon just bought MGM and stargate and the rumours are we’ll see in canon shows start back up soon.
HypnoJack
Didn't Syfy just push past season 8 to get to season 10 JUST for some kind of record? And once the record was achieved, they ditched SG1?
underestimated37
Pretty much, I watched a recent interview with one of the producers; S11 was planned and plotted, and Syfy pulled the rug & used contracts
underestimated37
To kill any attempt to move it elsewhere and continue
HypnoJack
Then did they replace SG1's slot with more wrestling....?
ThatP3rson
The Walking Dead
Arcian
That show was 11 seasons of the exact same plot, over and over again.
sadurdaynight
(srexec) show's getting stale. What can we do? (jrexec) spin offs with pretty much the same plots but different characters (sr) genius!
vandude9090
that only had two good seasons though
BaelKor
Oh please. the first season was leagues better than the second, which was arguably the lowest point of the show.
CockKnocker2000
Cheer up fucko
BaelKor
I'm confused what your comment is supposed to mean after mine.
CockKnocker2000
I can understand that
bj52398
I was really looking forward Firefly Season 7.
tinyfootprints
I recently started reading Firefly paperbacks. I will continue.

What universe have you hailed from. I want to go there. Maybe that universe has some more rainbows to look at as well.

BrightestNight
Is that the "I worship his shadow" series?
HelloDarknessMyOld
That was Lexx.
HereIsThere
Brigadoom was the best episode. Change my mind
HereIsThere
Oof
Cryfenril
DON'T DO THAT. Don't give me hope.
Molvanian
...I wanna go to this guy's timeline. Can I go to this guy's timeline?
HeraldofOmega
It will cost you 5 bananas.
freezeDriedBadger
Sitcom variation: by season 6 everyone's normal, are married and becomes a generic sitcom in themed t-shirts of the original premise.
TiddyMcGillicuddy
Well, season 7 was still pretty good i think.
fractal5
Yu8MopWho
MathiasTolerain
I always felt this saved Big Bang Theory. They got past the MOST EGREGIOUS “nerd farce” and let the characters marry/grow.
freezeDriedBadger
I feel like it helped up to a point, then over time it just became a generic "work friends & family" sitcom.
freezeDriedBadger
With the only science references being meaningless technobabble & nerdy celeb cameos towards the end
MathiasTolerain
Point. “Saved” in my original comment should be read as “ears don’t bleed anymore when wife watches it.” It didn’t make it GOOD per-se.
DatDarthCaedus
... or everyone's just flanderized beyond recognition and now solely consists of only one or two personality traits played up to eleven. 1/
DatDarthCaedus
Like how Joey in Friends went from not-too-bright but having some moments to borderline shouldn't-be-allowed-outside-alone levels of dumb.
PackedCatMeowingPowerDensity
Not really a Friends-watcher but Joey had actual personality once? When? How? I only know Phoebe went from tragic backstory to "cookyspice".
DatDarthCaedus
Well, he used to be sort of a shallow airhead with moments of streetsmarts and simple wisdom, but then devolved into "braindamaged caveman".
gtotherizzle
Buffy in a nutshell
FullTimeDisaster
Well, maybe not season 4
missmerk
Season 4 walked so season 5 could run.
PerpetuityPhoto
Well, Joss Whedon was pulling a Weinstein with his female actors on set, so yeah, things were bound to suffer because of it.

Personally, I thought season 7 was stronger than 6, and actually has the characters returning to their original character development.
KuroNeko00
7 was stronger than 6. But the ending to 5 was the natural stopping point. Could have gone out with a bang. Any rewatch by me stops at 5.
amyhadalittlepond
The good girl turns bad scenario definitely shaped my life from that point onwards. Was like oh, fuck, I don't have to be the smart sensible
amyhadalittlepond
one, I too can skin a guy upside down on a tree and burn everything.
lDanielHolm
Season 7 was more consistently good, but season 6 had the better episodes. Once More With Feeling, Seeing Red, Villains, Two to Go, Grave.
missmerk
Seasons 5 & 6 were probably my favourites. So many memorable moments.
lDanielHolm
Season 5 was absolutely brilliant. Some of the best episodes were in 4 and 6. But the best overall villain was Angelus, in season 2.
Smaugdk
Sad but true. Just watched the whole thing.. auch.
PeteTusk
Did you watch the spinoff series Angel too?
SkeletorOverlordofEvil
Not to Deep Space Nine. While a little shaky at first, it did better and better each season.
Longinus212
Oh good. I'm like, 7 episodes in so more to look forward to!
HypnoJack
TNG grows the beard in Season 2, following exactly the pattern described in the meme.
obarey
Also the Sisko Switch
and Sheridan's beard in B5.
HelloToe
obarey
Interesting, thank you.
HelloToe
He originally shaved the beard & grew his hair out for the role bc they didn't want him to look like his role Hawk from Spenser for Hire.
lDanielHolm
Clearly a mistake; the show gets *markedly* better once he grows the beard back.
UnagiFerrin
I love that some shows like Gravity Falls are planned out from the start for all seasons and it ends well
BaelKor
Some high-level story beats may be planned out in advance, but anyone who says they planned out all the details of a show is lying.
DatDarthCaedus
Yeah, usually for the best. Same with Breaking Bad, and the fact that they had it planned (and said no to extra seasons) from the start.
Textuality
Babylon-5 was the same way. Though the network kind of screwed with it by first not giving them their fifth season forcing them to try and
Textuality
wrap stuff up, then giving it to them making them have to adjust a bunch of stuff.
RARusk
I think B5 was the first to try this approach. Hopefully, with the reboot, JMS can do S5 the way he originally wanted to.
drunkcat
Just like Infinity Train! Oh wait.
SayWhatYouMeanMeanWhatYouSay
Me too, though the tricky thing about that kind of situation is if the shows a big hit the network may want it to run longer, and if the >>
SayWhatYouMeanMeanWhatYouSay
creative team won’t play ball the network may just replace them, leading to a similar “ghost of its former self” scenario.
UprootedGrunt
Ah, the Babylon 5 experience. "Ratings suck, you get one less season." Wraps things up. "Ratings are up, we want season 5 now..."
PunnyDragon
Was that what happened to Gargoyles?
AmHumanNotLizardMan
Avatar and Korra prime examples. And Korra a prime example of when the network FUCKS with the plan mid production...
LucidPariah
But I thought she said she was "bicurious" in like one of the First episodes
AmHumanNotLizardMan
Dude literally the only thing LGBT the network allowed in Korra was handholding in the last shot of the whole series.
LucidPariah
And the rule34 artists fucking Ran with that one! :D
Lampmonster
Always Sunny - We're gonna get real weird with it, do some very experimental episodes, cut our season down and basically tell the fans -
Lampmonster
- we're not quitting until they cancel us or we get bored.
MaybeCatsOperatingInGangs
Agreed - because they analyse and avoid and parody these exact things
Lampmonster
The awards episode and Old Lady House are great meta takes on other sitcoms.
MaybeCatsOperatingInGangs
Yes! The awards episode is one of my top faves taking the piss out of other programmes.
xXxSTEVOxXx
Well well well well. If it isn't parks and rec beat for beat
flamingflamingo
Yeah I don’t watch the final season.
Bristlecone42
Also Mad Men. Also 30 Rock. Also TNG. Also…
henrykillenger
TNG never really had a season that blew me away. Individual episodes absolutely but never really a whole season of "WOW!". DS9 though...
Bristlecone42
Ye, that’s fair. I feel like the spread of good episodes was at its peak around seasons 3 & 4, though.
upsidedownyhead
And Sons of Anarchy
komododave
And How I Met Your Mother.
xXxSTEVOxXx
HIMYM is mediocre the whole time. Fight me.
komododave
smashpro1
Thankfully, it had only 7 seasons.
TakeYouAway
I like all of it
MajorasTerribleFate
Neither of your asses are that smart because insurance is for if something bad happens to your car. P.S. I haven't had it in years.
CaptainSomebody
I'll agree for the first half, but I loved the last season's, didn't break any stride for me
miraclemaxcoc
Too old for most here, but MASH was great through to the end.
ThatDudeInTheMitten
I was too young to experience its original run, but Cheers was great as well, and had a perfect finale...
Penthesilean
I mean…yes but no. The first few years were a completely different show before Alda took over. Like *completely* different. And the last (1)
Penthesilean
few seasons kinda sucked.
Brunoemf90
Either way, S1 is definitely not one that makes you say “you know what, I wanna watch more of that”. When recommending Parks n Rec to 1/2
Brunoemf90
New viewers, I’m always compelled to say that they should not give up after S1 because I know that many will be inclined to. 2/2
TheBigBadBonerBiter
That's pretty much what I'm saying, it's short enough to power through and the rest of the show is good enough to make up for it.
OnePieceRoboFranky
Season 2 thru 7 are good ! Unpopular opinion I like it more then The Office. Parks and Rec made me laugh more.
theoldtook
That's hopefully not an unpopular opinion. I certainly share it with you. Positivity and friendship beat out cringe every time.
ClusterConsultant
I just finished rewatching it and I can concur. I did skip the first season since I really hate the preliminary Andy/Ann dynamic. 1/2
bigger66
first season of both is bad, its ok to skip
ClusterConsultant
I think season 7 may be the best possible way it could have ended. The series finale really knocked it out of the park.
missmerk
Agreed! One of the most conclusive series finales I’ve seen. Love everything about Parks & Rec. It’s so wholesome. Friends. Waffles. Work.
HowMuchWoodCouldAWoodDuckDuckIfAWoodDuckCouldDuckWood
Did it also knock it out of the rec?

ChiliBeef
Nah, I don't think I will. But, you're more than welcome to go back to school and relearn English skills.?
OnePieceRoboFranky
Also less cringey moments then The Office.
Xedi22
The UK version is...interesting.
bigger66
sure but the cringey bits are the point w/ the office, not with Parks
